Honoring Instinct, From Field to Finish
Meet Barratt Gorshe, owner and operator of Homefield Training and Kennels. Barratt’s passion for dogs began at just six years old when his parents gave him a beagle puppy. From that moment on, dogs became a constant part of his life, aside from a brief time in high school when basketball consumed most of his attention. Everything changed during Barratt’s senior year of high school when a young dog named Sherlock entered his life. Together, they spent countless hours training, hunting, and competing. Barratt worked tirelessly with Sherlock, often traveling across the western United States to field trials and hunting grounds in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming, and Montana. Barratt is an avid wild bird enthusiast, spending each season from August through March running dogs on wild birds. He is also a dedicated NSTRA field trial competitor, having championed the very first dog he ever competed with and mentored several new handlers to their first placements. His experience, passion, and competitive drive have shaped the foundation of Homefield Training and Kennels. At Homefield, Barratt believes every dog deserves an individualized approach. There is no “assembly line” or “cookie-cutter” training. Each dog is trained at a pace that builds confidence, develops natural ability, and creates a successful partnership between dog and handler.
Meet Aleece Gorshe, owner, trainer, and marketer of Homefield Training and Kennels. Aleece has loved dogs from a young age. Alongside her passion for animals, the great outdoors has always been where she feels most at home. Whether it was camping, hiking, or 4-wheeling, she was always eager for the next adventure. Add dogs into the mix, and it became the perfect day. At just 14 years old, Aleece spent countless hours taking her two dogs, Zeus and Xena, through Israel Canyon above her childhood home, letting them chase wildlife and explore alongside her. Years later, when she and Barratt reconnected as adults, he introduced her to the world of bird dogs, and she was instantly hooked. Since the summer of 2022, Aleece has been a part of Homefield Training and Kennels. She has found a true passion in raising and training puppies, watching them grow from young pups into confident bird dogs and loyal companions. For Aleece, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a dog connect with the instincts they were born with. Nothing is more rewarding than watching a dog grow into the bird dog and loyal companion it was born to be. Homefield is more than dog training…it is about building lifelong partnerships between dogs, the outdoors, and the people who love them.
